But spiritually, it can be a little disorienting. Maybe you meant to stick with your Bible reading plan, but vacation threw off your rhythm. Maybe you drifted a little (or a lot), and now it\u2019s fall and you\u2019re not sure where you stand with God.<\/p>\n<p>If this is you, you\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n<p>If you long to reconnect with God, a shift in seasons \u2014 especially from summer into fall \u2014 is a great time to reset. Think about where you want to be spiritually. Getting there isn\u2019t about making sweeping declarations that are hard to live up to, but about gentle changes that will reorient you and help you build new spiritual rhythms.<\/p>\n<p>Before you begin your journey back, here is some good \u2014 actually, great \u2014 news: God\u2019s not waiting for you with a guilt trip; He\u2019s inviting you back with grace. Whether you feel disconnected, distracted, or just spiritually dry, here are five simple rhythms to help you reconnect with Him this season.<\/p>\n<h4>1. Assess where you are spiritually (without the shame spiral).<\/h4>\n<p>Before you try to fix your faith life, pause and consider your current relationship with God. What does it <em>really<\/em> look like? This can be a hard question to answer. Many of us think in extremes: either we\u2019re completely disconnected from God or closer than ever. In reality, we often fall somewhere in the middle. Ask yourself a few questions to honestly assess where you are, what\u2019s lacking, and what you want moving forward:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Has my time with God felt quiet, awkward, or nonexistent?<\/li>\n<li>Has prayer become something I only do in crisis?<\/li>\n<li>Have I been filling my time and my soul with everything but God?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019ve drifted or feel disconnected from God, it doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019ve failed; it just means you\u2019re noticing where you are, and that\u2019s a good thing. Being aware of your spiritual dryness isn\u2019t a sign of weakness \u2014 it\u2019s a sign of growth.<\/p>\n<p>No matter how you feel, remember that God\u2019s not keeping score. He\u2019s not waiting to scold you for your summer of missed Bible reading or because you prayed only when you were overwhelmed. He doesn\u2019t meet you only when you\u2019ve pulled it all together. God meets you in the dry, distracted, messy places of your real life.<\/p>\n<p>So be honest. Maybe you haven\u2019t prayed much. Maybe you feel far from God and don\u2019t know why. Or maybe you know exactly why. Whatever it looks like, start there. Let that honesty be the first step back.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus said, \u201cCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%2011%3A28&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matthew 11:28<\/a>) That\u2019s not an invitation for the super-spiritual. It\u2019s for the tired, the inconsistent, the spiritually overwhelmed \u2014 which is all of us at some point.<\/p>\n<p>Name what\u2019s been true for you lately. Maybe it\u2019s, \u201cI haven\u2019t really prayed in weeks,\u201d or \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve been avoiding God,\u201d or even, \u201cI want to want Him, but I\u2019m not sure I do right now.\u201d God can work with that. He already knows where you are, and He\u2019s right there to walk forward with you in grace.<\/p>\n<h4>2. Reframe time with God as connection, not a checklist.<\/h4>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot of pressure in Christian spaces to spiritually \u201cget back on track\u201d when things are off. It can feel like you\u2019re behind and have to hustle to catch up. But your relationship with God isn\u2019t a productivity goal. God\u2019s not rolling His eyes at your inconsistency. What He really wants is connection \u2014 honest, personal, real connection with you.<\/p>\n<p>The sense of lack you feel is an invitation. God\u2019s calling you back into relationship. Rather than feeling pressure to do everything right, think about how you can be present with God. Instead of jumping straight into a rigid routine, try starting with some gentle questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What helps me feel close to God right now?<\/li>\n<li>When during my day do I naturally have a few quiet minutes \u2014 even five \u2014 to check in with Him?<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s one simple habit I can return to, not because I should, but because it stirs my heart toward Him?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Spiritual rhythms aren\u2019t a way to earn God\u2019s approval; they\u2019re a way to remember you already have it. They open space for grace \u2014 space to reconnect with the God who never left, even if you did. He\u2019s not waiting for the perfect version of you to show up. He just wants you.<\/p>\n<h4>3. Start a one-verse-a-day habit (and build on it).<\/h4>\n<p>Honestly, sometimes the idea of reading a whole chapter of the Bible feels overwhelming, especially if you&#8217;re coming out of a season of spiritual drift or just trying to figure out where to start again. The good news? You don\u2019t need to power through pages to connect with God. He can meet you in just one verse.<\/p>\n<p>Start small. Pick one verse in the morning \u2014 maybe from a devotional, a Bible reading plan, or something that stood out during church or a podcast. Don\u2019t overthink it. The goal isn\u2019t to find the perfect verse; it\u2019s to be open and present.<\/p>\n<p>Once you have your verse, keep it with you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Write it on a sticky note and attach it to your laptop or bathroom mirror<\/li>\n<li>Set it as your phone\u2019s lock screen<\/li>\n<li>Screenshot it or text it to a friend to keep each other encouraged<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Throughout your day, come back to it. Let it sink in slowly. Try asking, \u201cGod, what do You want me to notice in this today?\u201d or \u201cWhat does this show me about who You are or who I am?\u201d After a few weeks, you may find yourself wanting more. Great! This means you\u2019re building attentiveness \u2014 a softening of your heart toward God\u2019s Word.<\/p>\n<p>When you feel ready, you can build on this rhythm. Try adding a short devotional that fits the season you\u2019re in. It can be a few pages from a book, a five-minute app-based plan like <a href=\"https:\/\/first5.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First 5<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lectio365.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lectio 365<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/dwell-audio-bible\/id1343917374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dwell<\/a>, or a reading plan on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouVersion<\/a>. Aim for consistency, not perfection.<\/p>\n<h4>4. Use a sentence to begin and end the day with God.<\/h4>\n<p>Talking to God is an important part of relationship, but knowing what to pray can feel overwhelming, especially if it\u2019s been a while. Instead of thinking about how to pray or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boundless.org\/blog\/what-to-say-when-you-pray\/\">what to say<\/a>, think about how you would start the day with a friend or loved one. You\u2019d simply say, \u201cGood morning.\u201d At the end of the day you might say, \u201cGood night.\u201d This is a great way to reestablish talking to God.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you wake up each day, say \u201cGood morning, God.\u201d That\u2019s it.<\/li>\n<li>When go to bed, say, \u201cGoodnight, God.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nothing fancy. No requests. Just bookending the day with Someone you love. When this becomes more natural, build on it by welcoming His presence, thanking Him for the day, or telling Him about something. Keep the connection simple and grow from there.<\/p>\n<h4>5. Add movement with a prayer walk.<\/h4>\n<p>Fall is the perfect season to take your prayers outside. Whether it\u2019s through your neighborhood, on a college campus, or at a nearby trail, walking can open up new space to connect with God.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how to try it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Skip the podcasts and music and instead take time to notice things and pray out loud (or quietly in your head)<\/li>\n<li>Use a prayer prompt like thankfulness, future decisions, or people in your life<\/li>\n<li>Invite a friend and pray together as you walk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you find your thoughts wandering from prayer, just come back as if nothing happened. God is present with you in the wandering, and sometimes He even uses it to show you things. Try taking prayer walks every so often. It doesn\u2019t have to be every week; even once a month is a rhythm worth building.<\/p>\n<h4>6. Bonus tip: Refresh your worship playlist.<\/h4>\n<p>Sometimes reconnecting with God doesn\u2019t start with words; it starts with music. Update your worship playlist with songs that remind you of who God is and how steady He remains, even when your faith feels inconsistent. Let the lyrics draw you back to truth and God\u2019s promises. Whether you\u2019re in your car, studying, or relaxing, let the Holy Spirit meet you through worship.<\/p>\n<h4>Don\u2019t overthink it \u2013 just begin<\/h4>\n<p>Spiritual rhythms don\u2019t have to be big or complicated. Sometimes they\u2019re just small, honest moments with God, repeated in love. If fall finds you feeling dry, distracted, or unsure where to begin, take heart. God hasn\u2019t moved. He\u2019s still here. And He\u2019s not asking for perfection or performance. He\u2019s simply inviting you to come close.<\/p>\n<p>So don\u2019t wait for the perfect plan. Choose one small rhythm. Try it this week.
